Record a tab, window, or your whole screen — with system audio and mic mixing. Nothing leaves your device.
Pick a tab, window, or screen to record — the capture never leaves your device
Screen recording runs entirely in your browser using getDisplayMedia and MediaRecorder. Nothing is uploaded to any server.
The browser's getDisplayMedia API asks you which tab, window, or screen to share, and hands back a live video track. MediaRecorder then compresses that track in real time with VP9 (or VP8 fallback) into a WebM file — all on your device, no server round-trip. Microphone input is mixed in through a Web Audio graph so narration and system sound can share one recording. Output is WebM, not MP4: browsers only ship the free VP9/VP8 encoders for recording, so this tool does not pretend to export MP4 — WebM uploads natively to YouTube, Twitter/X, and Slack, and VLC plays it anywhere.
Everything is captured, encoded, and saved on your device. Recording starts only after you pick a surface to share.

Record tab, window, or screen with mic mixing. Everything runs locally; nothing is uploaded.
FreeToolHub Screen Recorder is a free browser-based tool — record tab, window, or screen with mic mixing. No signup, no upload; everything runs locally in your browser.
Record tab, window, or screen with mic mixing. Local WebM capture, no watermark.
The Screen Recorder captures a tab, window, or full screen using the browser's getDisplayMedia API and encodes it in real time with MediaRecorder (VP9/VP8 + Opus). Microphone narration can be mixed in, the timer shows elapsed time, and the finished WebM is saved directly to your device — nothing is uploaded.
Choose your audio options, click Start recording, and pick the surface to share from the browser's picker. The timer starts when recording begins; click Stop (or the browser's Stop sharing bar) and preview the result. Requires a modern browser on HTTPS — Chrome and Edge recommended.
The audio toggles decide what your recording can be used for, and they behave differently per browser. System audio captures what the tab or screen plays — ideal for demo videos and bug reports where the point is what happens on screen. Microphone audio adds narration — ideal for walkthroughs and feedback. Recording both produces a mix, but note that on some systems the system-audio capture picks up notification sounds too, so muting notifications before a long take saves re-records. Recordings capture in real time in WebM format and stay on your device: nothing uploads while recording or after. For tutorials meant to live on a video platform, record at full screen with the system audio on; for a quick bug report, a single window with microphone narration communicates faster than any ticket text.
Browsers only ship free VP9/VP8 + Opus encoders for real-time recording, and WebM is their native container. WebM uploads directly to YouTube, Slack, and most issue trackers; for MP4, convert the file with any local tool. This page will not pretend to re-encode video it did not capture.
Yes — tick "Include microphone narration" and your voice is mixed with the system/tab audio through a Web Audio graph into one Opus track. You can also record silent video by unticking both audio options.
Two ways: the Stop button in the tool, or the browser's native "Stop sharing" bar that appears at the top of the captured surface. Both finish the file and show the preview instantly.
Nowhere — the recording stays in your browser as a local WebM file until you click download. No server receives the video during or after recording, which makes the tool safe for internal demos and anything confidential.
This tool does one job — reliable, private screen capture with audio mixing — and hands you the WebM. Webcam compositing and trimming are separate products with separate privacy footprints; here the entire pipeline is getDisplayMedia plus a local MediaRecorder, so the attack surface stays minimal.
